Daily Energy Market Update October 22, 2026
Liquidity Energy, LLC
Tensions in the Middle East have intensified, raising concerns over potential disruptions to global energy supplies. Iranian state media reported that several oil tankers were attacked or struck naval mines in and around the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC Navy claimed responsibility for some of the attacks and warned that continued U.S. provocations could trigger a broader response against American military bases in the region, increasing the risk of further escalation.
Meanwhile, Iran-aligned Houthi forces in Yemen have expanded their attacks on Saudi Arabia, targeting critical infrastructure and striking near the Shaybah oilfield. Although operations at the oilfield remain unaffected, the incident has heightened concerns about the vulnerability of Saudi energy infrastructure and the potential for further disruptions to regional oil production and exports. The deteriorating security situation has also prompted the United States to order non-essential government personnel and their families to leave Saudi Arabia.
Oil prices have moved higher amid renewed fears of supply disruptions and the possibility of further military action against Iran. Market sentiment has been particularly sensitive to developments around key shipping routes and energy infrastructure, as any sustained disruption could complicate the movement of crude oil from the region. The latest reports have reinforced concerns that the conflict could spread further across the Middle East, increasing uncertainty for global energy markets.
Diplomatic prospects remain uncertain, with Iran's foreign minister expressing deep distrust of Washington and questioning the likelihood of a successful peace agreement. Iran's president has also indicated that negotiations cannot proceed under the current conditions, particularly while U.S. pressure and restrictions remain in place. At the same time, reports that U.S. and Israeli forces are preparing contingency plans for renewed strikes have added to concerns that the conflict could enter another phase of escalation.
Elsewhere, Kuwait has reported progress in restoring oil production, offering some support to regional supply. However, fuel production and broader energy flows remain constrained compared with pre-war conditions. While higher oil prices could place renewed pressure on consumers and businesses, some analysts believe the economic impact may be more manageable than during previous energy shocks. For now, the outlook for oil markets remains closely tied to developments around the Strait of Hormuz, the security of regional energy infrastructure, and the prospects for de-escalation.
Crude (CLZ6)
Crude rallied overnight but stalled below recent highs and the upper Bollinger Band. After an seven straight days trading around the upper band, price has moved back below for the first time, suggesting the rally may be stretched in the near term.
Momentum has also turned lower after reaching overbought territory earlier in the week. The combination of fading momentum and an extended price move raises the risk of near-term consolidation or a deeper retracement before the next directional move becomes clearer.
On the upside, a break above recent highs or a sustained move back above the upper Bollinger Band would suggest bullish momentum is is resuming. On the downside, a close below initial support would increase the risk of a more meaningful pullback.
Overall, the broader upward move remains in focus, but near-term momentum has weakened.

Heating Oil (HOX6)
Heating oil printed a bearish engulfing pattern yesterday, reaching a new high before closing below the previous day's low. With momentum in overbought territory and crossing lower, the setup suggests the market may be stretched and vulnerable to a deeper near-term retracement. However, with key moving averages still trending higher, any pullback may be more limited as the broader trend remains supportive.

BRENTWTI Arb Dec
The arb is trading lower overnight after closing weaker in the previous session, marking a fourth consecutive day of lower lows and lower highs as selling pressure continues. Momentum has crossed down from the neutral zone and is pointing lower, suggesting further downside may be possible before a potential bounce or consolidation develops. The key level to watch is the October low; a break below it would signal that bearish momentum remains strong.
The moving average structure has also turned increasingly bearish. Following the 50-day moving average crossing below the 100-day in mid-September, all three key moving averages are now stacked and beginning to trend lower, reinforcing the downside bias. A close back above -9.23 would suggest we’ve seen a near term low.

Natural Gas (NGX6)
Natural gas continued lower yesterday, breaking key support at 2.900 and closing below the lower Bollinger Band for the first time since early August. Momentum is moving into oversold territory but continues to point lower, suggesting selling pressure remains in place despite the increasingly stretched downside move.
From current levels, watch for a close back above 2.804 as an initial near-term pivot. A recovery above this level could signal a potential short-term bottom and the start of a consolidation. The former support at 2.900 remains the next key level to watch, with a close back above it providing further confirmation that selling pressure may be easing. However, failure to reclaim these levels would leave natural gas vulnerable to further downside.
Key Levels

2.804 — Lower Bollinger Band
2.900 — Previous lows
3.093 — 20-day moving average
Support
- 2.726 — Overnight low
